Make-up for the grown-up girl

Lauren Hutton's range of makeup and skincare products is aimed specifically at older women

blog imageA pretty good pin-up herself for the over-50s, Lauren Hutton came up with her own makeup range when she couldn't find anything suitable once she returned to modelling at the age of 46.

"Most makeup available today is formulated for younger women," says Hutton. "The textures are heavy, the colors saturated and they're filled with shiny particles that act like airport runway lights in every line, wrinkle or pore, saying 'Look over here!'"

As we age, she believers, our faces demand different beauty products and different ways to put them on.

blog imageblog imageThe Hutton Good Stuff range is based around makeup that is matte and creamy and is meant to give older skin a more youthful look. I haven't tried it, so can't speak for it personally - the photographs show a rather heavy look compared with European taste, but this is largely a matter of application. Americans do seem to prefer a more made-up look of the kind that the average European woman would only use on a special occasion, though on this older woman it looks better than on the younger women shown.

The range seems pretty comprehensive and includes skincare products, foundations, eye shadow, blushers, concealers and contouring products. No products are tested on animals. Items are available separately, but the foundation items also come in a giant disc that looks like an artist's palette. Prices are a bit high if you buy the sets, but you have to allow for how many products you're getting, I guess

Personally I prefer cream and mousse-based makeup these days, which I feel works well on my increasingly dry skin, but if you're happy with powders, you could do worse than give these a look. The lipsticks, though, look delicious - matte, moisturing and creamy.  www.laurenhutton.com.
