Hidden danger in sunscreens

Ingredient dangerous when inhaled

Nano-titanium dioxide, an ingredient in some sunscreens has been found to be dangerous when inhaled, according to the US National Academy of Sciences. "The inhalation of nano-TiO2 provokes an inflammation of the lungs," says the organisation. "The use of nano-TiO2 can present a danger to health by reason of its capacity to induce an IL-1R signal, a situation similar to the inflammation provoked by exposure to asbestos."
