Fragrance and flavour to cost more money
When the F&F companies catch a cold, you and I will get the flu.
We can all expect to pay more for our beauty products, perfumes and even household cleaners from next year.
International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF), one of the world's biggest suppliers of fragrances and flavours, has said that rises in input costs have been worse than predicted, which will probably mean it has to put its prices up. And where IFF goes, the other F&F companies will follow.
This news is important for consumers because fragrances and flavours from those half-dozen companies are in virtually every processed food we eat - biscuits, sauces, ready meals, tinned food - and the fragrances are in everything we smell, from scented candles to incense sticks to toilet cleaner to wash powder. Every day you and I use dozens of products containing ingredients from these companies.
Price increases will be in the region of low single digits to strong double digits depending on the ingredient in question, said the firm's chief financial officer. Watch this space - or your supermarket receipts - to see what difference it makes to your weekly shop.
